Motorola Unveils 2026 Razr Lineup with Price Hikes and New Book-Style Device
At a Los Angeles event, Motorola announced a refresh of its folding phone portfolio featuring the new Razr Fold and incremental upgrades to the Ultra, Plus, and base models.
Motorola has officially launched its 2026 Razr folding phone lineup at an event in Los Angeles, marking a strategic shift with the introduction of the company's first book-style device, the Razr Fold, alongside updated flip models. The announcement highlights significant price increases across the existing flip range, ranging from $100 to $200, coupled with modest hardware refinements such as brighter displays and larger batteries. The new Razr Fold is positioned as a premium offering at $1,900, featuring an 8.1-inch inner screen and triple-camera system. Availability is scheduled for May 21, following preorders from May 14.
The updated flip models see very minor spec bumps with no dramatic changes to hardware or design. The Razr Ultra is now priced at $1,500, representing a $200 increase, while the Razr+ costs $1,100 and the base Razr starts at $800, both reflecting a $100 bump over their predecessors. Despite the higher costs, the devices retain the same Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and RAM as their predecessors, though the base Razr has seen its starting storage reduced from 256 GB to 128 GB. Additionally, the 1 TB storage option has been removed from the Razr Ultra, leaving 512 GB as the maximum capacity.
Key improvements focus on display brightness and durability. The Razr Ultra now features Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 on the outer display, which the company claims delivers over 75 percent better drop performance, alongside a peak brightness of 5,000 nits. The base Razr is the only model in the lineup to hold a MIL-STD 810H durability rating, having been tested to meet specific standards for high altitudes and extreme temperatures. Battery capacities have also increased across the board, with the Ultra sitting at 5,000 mAh, the Razr at 4,800 mAh, and the Razr+ at 4,500 mAh.
On the software front, Motorola is extending security updates from four to five years, a move intended to provide longer-term protection for the devices. However, Android OS upgrades remain limited to three versions. The company also notes that while the Razr Fold matches Samsung's IP rating at IP48, Google's Pixel 10 Pro Fold still holds a superior IP68 rating in the category. The new book-style model includes a triple-camera system with a 3x optical zoom and supports the new Moto Pen Ultra stylus as a separate accessory.
Motorola also launched the Moto Buds 2 Plus wireless earbuds at the event, retailing for $150. These earbuds are noted for their design, which resembles Apple's AirPods Pro, though they are available in blue. The company stated that preorders for all the phones start on May 14, with sales commencing on May 21. This launch adds a third option to the market for large-form folding phones, joining the ranks of competitors like Samsung and Google, though the lack of groundbreaking changes in the flip models may be off-putting for some consumers.
