Monroe News-Star Launches Reader Poll for LHSAA Athlete of the Week Selection
The Monroe News-Star has initiated a poll allowing readers to select the Athlete of the Week, with submissions concluding at 10 a.m. on Friday, 15 May.

The Monroe News-Star has launched a reader poll inviting the public to vote for the Athlete of the Week covering the period from 4 to 9 May. This annual feature serves to recognise standout performances by local high school athletes across various Louisiana High School Athletic Association divisions and classes. The selection process encompasses a broad range of sports, with a significant emphasis on track and field, baseball, golf, and softball during this specific week.
A comprehensive list of nominees has been released by the publication, featuring individual and team champions from schools including Sterlington, D'Arbonne Woods Charter, West Ouachita, Weston, Delhi Charter, Cedar Creek, Claiborne Christian, Jonesboro-Hodge, Neville, Ouachita, Mangham, Ascension Episcopal, Quitman, Ruston, and Simsboro. The recognitions cover the LHSAA postseason, which includes divisions I through V, classes 1A through 5A, as well as Class B competitions.
Among the individual honours, Joley Bennett of D'Arbonne Woods Charter is recognised for clinching the LHSAA Class 2A individual javelin championship. Madison Boyd from West Ouachita secured the Class 4A individual championship in the 300-meter hurdles. Additionally, Tayven Carter of Delhi Charter achieved two individual titles in the long jump and triple jump, while Ciara Gray of Jonesboro-Hodge won three individual events including the 300-meter hurdles, long jump, and triple jump.
Team successes are also central to the nominations, with Cedar Creek boys golf clinching the LHSAA Division IV team championship following top-five finishes from two golfers. Quitman track and field swept the Class B titles with six individual champions, and Ruston girls track and field won the Class 5A 4x800-meter relay. Other notable team and individual results include victories in baseball quarterfinals and semifinals across multiple schools.
The poll remains open for readers to cast their votes until 10 a.m. on Friday, 15 May. The Monroe News-Star, a local newspaper serving the Monroe area in Louisiana, will utilise the results of this public vote to determine the final recipient of the Athlete of the Week award for the week in question.
