MLB moves Red Sox–Cubs finale to Florida as nor’easter approaches
The regular-season finale is scheduled for Sunday at Tropicana Field after a forecast of heavy rain and wind prompted MLB to relocate it from Fenway Park.
Major League Baseball has moved the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs’ regular-season finale from Fenway Park to Tropicana Field in St Petersburg, Florida. The game is scheduled for Sunday at 3.05 pm ET.
The clubs had been due to play the finale in Boston on Saturday. A nor’easter forecast to bring heavy rain and wind to New England prompted the schedule changes, MLB said.
The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader in Boston on Friday, with the second game brought forward to 5.35 pm ET. They will travel to Florida after the doubleheader.
Friday’s first game, originally scheduled for Sunday, ended in a 4–3 Red Sox win. The relocation leaves the clubs’ final regular-season meeting at Tropicana Field, where the Tampa Bay Rays are away for a series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
The source reports that both teams are bound for the postseason. Boston’s win secured the fifth American League seed, while Chicago’s final seeding remained dependent on its remaining results and a possible Phillies loss.
