Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards accelerates recovery timeline to return against Spurs
Edwards underwent intensive rehabilitation protocols including pool therapy and hyperbaric chamber treatment before scoring 18 points off the bench in a 104-102 victory.

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has returned to NBA action just nine days after sustaining a left knee bone bruise and hyperextension during Game 4 against the Denver Nuggets. This comeback occurred significantly faster than the initial medical projection, which had indicated a minimum two-week absence for the team's leading scorer.
The rapid recovery was facilitated by an intensive rehabilitation protocol that included pool workouts designed to reduce pressure on the joint and the use of a hyperbaric chamber. Edwards cleared light work and travelled to San Antonio, where he was listed as questionable for the opening match of the second-round series against the Spurs.
Edwards entered the game off the bench but immediately made an impact, playing 25 minutes to score 18 points on 62 per cent shooting. His performance contributed to a 104-102 victory for Minnesota at the Frost Bank Center, securing a win that positions the club as early contenders in the series.
This return was earlier than anticipated by team sources, who had previously targeted a comeback for Games 3 or 4 of the second-round series. The Timberwolves had successfully closed out their first-round series against Denver without Edwards playing, but the accelerated timeline shifts the strategic narrative for the upcoming matches.
Following the game, Edwards expressed dissatisfaction with his final two minutes of play, indicating an expectation to perform at a higher level in Game 2. With increased minutes anticipated in the next outing, his influence on the team's offence is expected to grow further as the series progresses.
While the short-term recovery has been successful, the long-term impact of the bone bruise and hyperextension on Edwards' season availability remains to be determined. The team will now focus on whether he can maintain his high shooting efficiency and intensity over a full game load in subsequent matches.
