Build A Rocket Boy, the developer and publisher of MindsEye, appears to be shutting down after several employees said their time at the studio was coming to an end.

Engadget reported that the studio’s principal talent acquisition partner, Dan Hawkins, said he would help wrap up its human resources operations. Kotaku, as cited by Engadget, reported that Build A Rocket Boy was set to close permanently.

The supplied material does not include an official confirmation from Build A Rocket Boy, and the timing, scope and legal status of any closure remain unclear. It has also not established that every employee has lost their job.

The reports follow a difficult period for MindsEye, which launched in June 2025 in a widely criticised, bug-ridden state. Reports that PlayStation issued refunds to some players were followed by multiple rounds of layoffs.

Build A Rocket Boy subsequently released a MindsEye expansion, multiplayer and a football mode, but those efforts reportedly failed to reverse the game’s fortunes. The studio became MindsEye’s sole publisher in March after ending its relationship with IOI Partners.

The IWGB Game Workers Union also previously accused management of installing Teramind surveillance software on employees’ devices without their knowledge or consent. That claim remains an allegation.
