Microsoft removes AI mascot Mico from Copilot Voice interface

Microsoft has removed its AI mascot Mico from the Copilot Voice interface, relocating the character to the Learn Live hub. The move, confirmed by the company’s support page, marks a significant shift in how the amorphous character interacts with users, transitioning from a voice conversation companion to a tutor within the learning section.
Introduced in October 2025, Mico was designed to provide an anthropomorphised presence for voice interactions with the Copilot AI chatbot. The character’s removal from the primary voice interface occurs less than a year after its debut, with Microsoft stating that the relocation allows the character more room to grow through tutoring sessions.
According to the support documentation, insights gathered from Mico’s deployment are actively shaping the development of future Copilot features. The company noted that the character helped inform its understanding of user preferences regarding warmth and expressiveness in artificial intelligence interactions.
Microsoft emphasized that standard voice interaction capabilities with Copilot remain fully available to users. The decision to move Mico does not affect the core functionality of the voice interface, although Mico-specific settings configured for the voice section will not carry over to the new Learn Live hub.
The relocation follows a period of public scrutiny regarding Microsoft’s history of creating AI characters. The company’s support page described the move as a strategic adjustment to leverage user engagement data, positioning Mico in an environment where it can react to and teach through tutoring sessions.
