Microsoft pushes Fable reboot to February 2027 to sidestep crowded autumn slate
The studio behind the long-awaited title cites the need for a dedicated launch window amidst major competitor releases, including Grand Theft Auto VI and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

Microsoft has officially delayed the release of the Fable reboot, moving the title from its previously scheduled autumn 2026 window to February 2027. The decision, confirmed via the Xbox account on X, aims to provide the game with a dedicated launch moment and avoid direct competition with a congested schedule of major industry releases.
The company cited a packed fall gaming season as a primary factor in the rescheduling. Microsoft noted that the autumn period will feature significant titles such as Grand Theft Auto VI, scheduled for November 19, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 arriving on October 23, and Star Wars: Galactic Racer launching on October 6. The statement also referenced other upcoming releases including Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day, and Control Resonant, though specific dates for these were not provided in the announcement.
Matt Booty, Xbox’s chief content officer, addressed the delay in an episode of the Official Xbox Podcast released on Friday. Booty confirmed that while the company had previously promised updates regarding Project Helix, the next-generation Xbox console, news regarding the hardware will not be shared during the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase. This follows earlier commitments to provide more information about the console later this year.
Despite the delay, Microsoft confirmed that a new look at Fable will be presented during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7. The event is expected to showcase the game’s broader lineup, with industry observers anticipating that specific release dates for other titles in the pipeline may also be announced during the broadcast.
Fable, developed by Playground Games, was originally announced in 2020 as a new beginning for the series. The project has undergone multiple delays, with initial plans targeting a 2025 release before being pushed to 2026. The reboot is set to launch on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PS5.
