Microsoft locks in October 6 launch for Gears of War: E-Day
The latest entry in Microsoft’s flagship franchise is set for a 2026 release, confirmed during the company’s SGF 2026 showcase.

Microsoft has confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day will launch on 6 October 2026, cementing the title as an exclusive for Xbox and PC platforms. The announcement was delivered during the Xbox SGF 2026 showcase, where the company unveiled new footage depicting the game’s setting and gameplay mechanics.
The release window confirms the title will not be available on the PlayStation 5, maintaining Microsoft’s strategy of keeping its major franchises within its own ecosystem. The new trailer showcased close-quarter combat sequences and featured acid-filled monsters within a devastated Earth environment, providing further context to the narrative backdrop.
The announcement served as the opening segment of the SGF 2026 showcase, with Microsoft moving quickly to establish the release date for one of its most significant gaming properties. The footage presented appears to be in-game action, highlighting the intense, violent tone characteristic of the series.
This launch date sits alongside other recent scheduling updates from the company. Microsoft previously confirmed a firm release date of 23 February 2027 for Fable, developed by Playground Games, following a series of delays. The Gears of War: E-Day date provides a concrete timeline for the franchise’s next iteration earlier in the year.
While the release date is now set, further details regarding the game’s content are expected to emerge in the near future. Industry observers noted the possibility of a playable build being demonstrated at events in Los Angeles, though this remains an expectation rather than a confirmed fact at this stage.
