Microsoft locks in February 2027 launch for Fable after third delay
The long-awaited RPG, first announced in 2020, receives a firm release date of 23 February 2027, with Premium Edition owners gaining early access five days prior.

Microsoft has confirmed a firm release date of 23 February 2027 for the new Fable role-playing game, marking the end of a protracted development cycle that has seen the title delayed multiple times. The announcement was made during the company’s Xbox Games Showcase, where the studio also unveiled fresh footage of the project developed by Playground Games, the team behind the Forza Horizon series.
The release window has shifted significantly since the game was first announced in July 2020. Initially targeted for a 2025 launch, the title was pushed back to 2026 before being delayed again to 2027 in late May. The latest confirmation follows a dedicated gameplay overview released earlier this year, with the showcase trailer aiming to demonstrate how the new entry retains the fantasy setting and British humour that defined the original trilogy.
In a significant shift for the historically Xbox-exclusive franchise, Fable will launch simultaneously on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation 5. This multi-platform strategy represents a notable change in Microsoft’s distribution approach for its major first-party titles. No specific technical performance metrics or system requirements for the PlayStation 5 version have been detailed in the current release information.
Microsoft also provided details regarding the game’s narrative cast, revealing that actress Hayley Atwell will voice Isabel, the game’s antagonist. The studio described the project as a “new beginning” for the series, aiming to deliver on the elements that fans have long associated with the Fable brand.
For consumers looking to access the title ahead of the standard launch, the Premium Edition will provide early access starting on 18 February 2027. The company has not yet outlined a long-term support or post-launch content roadmap for the game, leaving questions regarding ongoing development updates unanswered.
