Mexican student develops sound-based fire extinguisher

Sixteen-year-old Ángela Karime Venegas Hernández, a student at CETIS 78 in Altamira, Tamaulipas, has developed an experimental fire-extinguishing device that uses sound waves instead of water or chemical agents.
The project, called Vortex Tech, combines a 12-volt battery, a frequency generator and a speaker emitting 30 pulses per second. According to a report carried by Hacker News and linking to UPSOCL, the resulting vibration is intended to displace oxygen around a flame.
The report says the device extinguished flames in five to eight seconds and was tested more than 100 times. Those demonstrations reportedly included wood, flammable liquids, cooking grease and electronic equipment.
The source also characterises Vortex Tech as non-polluting, residue-free and safe for its user. Those claims, along with the reported performance across different fire types, have not been independently verified in the supplied material.
