Metz Unveils Heritage Kit as World Cup Final Approaches
While Lionel Messi and Lamine Yamal prepare for a World Cup final clash, Metz has released a new shirt honouring its heritage.

French football club Metz has unveiled a new shirt designed by artist Sébastien Abdelhamid Godelu to honour the club’s heritage. Godelu is known for previous anime-inspired designs, including those for Naruto, marking a distinct shift in the club's visual identity.
This development comes as attention turns to the upcoming World Cup final, which will feature a clash between Lionel Messi and Lamine Yamal. Both players are identified as the competition’s top dribblers, though they trail Diego Maradona’s record of 53 successful dribbles from the 1986 tournament.
Prior to the final, Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez continued the banter following Argentina’s World Cup semi-final victory over England. Fernandez posted a mocking story set to Oasis’s 'Wonderwall' on Thursday, keeping the rivalry alive after the Wednesday night win.
The tournament has also seen significant individual milestones, with Messi breaking the all-time World Cup scoring record with 17 goals during Argentina’s 2-0 victory over Austria. The match took place at the Dallas Cowboys’ stadium in Texas before a crowd of 70,649.
As the final approaches, the focus remains on the generational clash between Messi and Yamal, with both players aiming to surpass Maradona’s historic dribbling record. Meanwhile, Metz’s new kit offers a separate narrative of cultural innovation within the sport.
