Meta launches Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp subscriptions, with more to come, including AI plans
New consumer offerings for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp priced at $2.99 to $3.99 monthly, alongside testing of professional and artificial intelligence services under the Meta One brand.

Meta has officially launched global paid subscription plans for its flagship applications, Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, marking a significant expansion of its monetisation strategy beyond traditional advertising. The new consumer tiers, branded as Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus, are priced at $3.99 per month, while WhatsApp Plus is available for $2.99 monthly. These plans introduce enhanced features such as profile customisation, story insights, and advanced messaging tools, designed to cater to power users and creators seeking deeper engagement metrics.

The consumer offerings are distinct from the existing Meta Verified service, which continues to focus on identity verification and impersonation protection. Instagram Plus subscribers gain access to aggregate story rewatch counts, unlimited audience lists, weekly story spotlighting, and the ability to extend stories beyond the standard 24-hour window. WhatsApp Plus users can utilise app themes, custom ringtones, and additional pinned chats, while Facebook Plus mirrors the social expression features found in the Instagram tier.

Concurrently, Meta is testing professional and artificial intelligence-focused subscription plans under a new umbrella brand called Meta One. These trials aim to diversify revenue streams by targeting creators, businesses, and heavy AI users. The professional tiers, Meta One Essential and Meta One Advanced, are priced at $14.99 and $49.99 per month respectively, offering benefits such as verification badges, enhanced linksheets, and boosted search rankings.

For artificial intelligence users, Meta is introducing Meta One Plus at $7.99 per month and Meta One Premium at $19.99 per month. The Premium tier unlocks higher compute capacity for complex reasoning tasks and advanced video and image generation capabilities. These AI plans are scheduled to begin testing in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia next month, with Meta AI remaining free for casual users.

The rollout represents a strategic response to the global saturation of Meta’s core applications. By leveraging its existing audience of billions, the company aims to generate additional revenue through direct subscriptions. Naomi Gleit, Meta’s head of product, indicated that the company is still experimenting with these offerings, but intends to consolidate and expand them under the Meta One brand in the future.
