Meta Launches Subscription Tiers for Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp as Part of 'Meta One' Strategy
Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus are priced at $3.99 per month, while WhatsApp Plus costs $2.99, following months of private testing under the new Meta One framework.

Meta has officially rolled out subscription-based "Plus" tiers for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, concluding a period of private testing that began in late March. The new offerings, branded under the "Meta One" framework, introduce paid access to enhanced features across its core consumer applications. This move signals a deliberate expansion of the company’s monetisation strategy, moving beyond its existing identity-verification services to create distinct revenue streams through feature gating.
Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus are priced at $3.99 per month, while WhatsApp Plus is available for $2.99 per month. Subscribers to the Instagram and Facebook tiers gain access to detailed story statistics, including aggregate rewatch counts and the ability to search viewer lists. Key benefits include the extension of vanishing posts beyond the standard 24-hour window, custom themes, exclusive reactions such as the "super heart," and the ability to view parts of other users' stories without appearing in their viewer list.
WhatsApp Plus users receive a different set of enhancements, including app themes, exclusive ringtones, upgraded stickers, and additional pinned chats. The rollout also introduces the ability for users to post content without appearing in their followers' feeds, a feature designed to offer greater control over audience visibility. These features were teased during the initial testing phase, where screenshots revealed capabilities such as weekly story spotlighting and multiple audience selection for posts.
Beyond social media features, Meta One serves as a broader framework for testing subscription models across AI services and business accounts. Meta AI is introducing usage limits for complex features, including extended reasoning and "Thinking" mode, as well as image and video generation. While Meta AI will remain free in some capacity, higher usage caps for these resource-intensive tasks will be reserved for paid tiers, effectively creating a freemium model for its artificial intelligence tools.
The company is also testing fresh subscription plans for businesses and creators, with potential revamps to the existing Meta Verified service. Historical context suggests that Meta One may eventually include higher-tier AI plans, with previous reports indicating potential pricing at $7.99 and $19.99 per month for premium AI services. However, the current rollout focuses on the consumer "Plus" tiers and the initial implementation of AI usage limits, marking a significant step in diversifying the tech giant’s revenue sources.
