New MMA platform models offer up to 374 miles of range and 320 kW charging speeds

Mercedes-Benz has released the 2027 CLA compact electric sedan, marking a strategic entry into the mid-priced electric vehicle segment. The model line is now available in two distinct variants: the CLA250 Plus and the CLA350 4Matic. Both vehicles are constructed on the manufacturer’s new MMA platform and share a common 85 kWh battery pack utilising an 800V electrical architecture. This infrastructure supports a maximum charging capacity of 320 kW, enabling the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 22 minutes.

Pricing for the entry-level CLA250 Plus begins at $48,500, offering an EPA-estimated driving range of 374 miles. The all-wheel-drive CLA350 4Matic starts at $51,850 and provides a range of 312 miles. Performance figures for the 350 4Matic include a combined output of 349 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque, allowing acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. The rear-wheel-drive CLA250 Plus produces 268 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque, reaching 60 mph in 6.6 seconds.

The vehicle integrates the latest Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS0) as its software foundation, alongside sixth-generation MBUX infotainment software. Mercedes states that the MB.OS0 architecture facilitates more seamless over-the-air updates, particularly for refining driver-assistance systems. The interior features a coefficient of drag of 0.21 and offers 11.7 cubic feet of cargo capacity, including a 1.4 cubic foot front trunk.

Optional equipment includes the Pinnacle Line, priced at $5,850, which adds customizable interior lighting, wireless charging, a head-up display, and a Burmester 3D surround sound system. The vehicle also offers an optional Superscreen configuration comprising three separate screens across the dashboard. Driver assistance features include MB DriveAssist for $1,950, while the Level 2 autonomous MB DriveAssist Pro, priced at $3,950, is not currently available on this model.

Regenerative braking is adjustable via paddle shifters, allowing for one-pedal driving capabilities. The vehicle’s handling characteristics have been noted for confident turn-in and chassis control, although ground clearance remains a consideration for larger speed bumps. The launch positions the CLA as a competitive option in a segment where average new car transaction prices hover near $50,000, combining solid electric specifications with traditional sedan comfort.
