Mechanism launches Basegrip mounting accessory for Valve Steam Controller
The new product enables PC remote control via the Steam Link app, though full mobile compatibility remains limited until a dedicated charging dock arrives in June 2026.
Accessories manufacturer Mechanism has released the Basegrip, a mounting solution designed to attach the Valve Steam Controller to smartphones and various surfaces. The product was made available for purchase on the same day as the Steam Controller's launch, priced at $99. This simultaneous release was possible because Valve provided Mechanism with early access to the controller's design.
The Basegrip allows users to mount the Steam Controller to a phone or other surfaces, including Mechanism's existing lineup of mounts for hanging handhelds and gamepads on the Ikea Skadis pegboard. When paired with a phone mount, the setup enables PC remote control via the Steam Link streaming app. However, Mechanism notes that the controller does not work across all iOS or Android devices yet, meaning the configuration may not function as a reliable one-stop shop for mobile gaming at this time.
Despite the current limitations with mobile operating systems, the accessory addresses a practical issue regarding the controller's storage and charging. The Steam Controller includes a magnetic charging puck, but without a dedicated stand, the controller and puck typically lie flat on a surface. Mechanism's proposed dock is designed to stand the controller at an angle, allowing it to be charged and displayed while connected.
Mechanism is currently accepting a waitlist for this dedicated charging dock, which is scheduled for release in June 2026. The company states that its dock is perfectly weighted for lifting pleasure and is designed to proudly display, charge, and connect the Steam Controller. For users wishing to build their own solutions immediately, Mechanism is offering free files so individuals can 3D print their own versions of the Basegrip and a stripped-down dock.
The collaboration between Mechanism and Valve is not new, with the company previously working on mounting solutions for the Steam Deck. In a notable instance of this partnership, Valve utilised dozens of Mechanism's mounts, formerly known as Deckmate, to create the Steam Deck-filled orb that now features in the company's lobby.
