Mbappe prioritises French World Cup campaign over individual records
Kylian Mbappe has stated that personal milestones are secondary to collective success as the national team prepares for the tournament, while also reflecting on Paris Saint-Germain’s recent Champions League victory.

Real Madrid forward and France captain Kylian Mbappe has declared that individual accolades take a backseat to team achievement as the national squad enters its World Cup campaign. Speaking ahead of the tournament, the French captain emphasised that the primary objective remains securing the trophy for France, rather than climbing higher on the all-time scoring charts.
Mbappe acknowledged that while he is already among the most prolific players in World Cup history, he is cautious about comparisons to older legends on the records list. He noted he is "lucky enough" to have performed well in two previous tournaments but stressed that his focus is entirely on returning to France with the World Cup.
The French side enters the competition as one of the favourites, a status Mbappe believes requires careful management. He warned the squad to keep their emotions in check, noting that the tournament format offers no room for error. "One bad game sends you home," he said, adding that he conveys the message daily that the team has not yet achieved anything despite the external expectations.
Mbappe confirmed that the squad is in good physical condition following a solid pre-tournament build-up. He expressed satisfaction with the internal preparation and stated the team is ready to compete with the specific aim of reaching the final. He dismissed the idea of dampening player enthusiasm, instead advocating for a grounded approach to the challenges ahead.
In a separate reflection on recent club football, Mbappe revealed he congratulated his former Paris Saint-Germain teammates on their Champions League victory. He described the achievement as "brilliant" and noted the difficulty of consoling a single teammate who lost the final compared to a group that won it.
The captain specifically mentioned offering support to William Saliba following the defeat. Mbappe drew on his own experience of losing a Champions League final to console the defender, highlighting the emotional weight of such outcomes.
Despite the recent club successes and setbacks, Mbappe reported that the French dressing room remains in good spirits. The focus has now shifted entirely to the national team’s goal, with the squad united in its pursuit of World Cup glory.
