Liverpool have set an asking price of £35 million for midfielder Curtis Jones as he enters the final year of his contract, signalling a definitive shift in the club’s squad planning. The decision comes as manager Arne Slot reportedly places Jones out of favour, with trust between the player and the coaching staff deteriorating following Jones’ supportive interaction on social media with Mohamed Salah’s criticisms of the manager.

Inter Milan are actively pursuing the 25-year-old, having collapsed a move to San Siro in January. Italian reports indicate that Jones has prioritised a transfer to Italy over interest from Aston Villa and Newcastle United. The midfielder concluded his domestic campaign on 24 May 2026 by scoring the opening goal in a 1–1 draw against Brentford, a result that secured a top-five Premier League finish and Champions League qualification for Liverpool.

The proposed sale represents a significant departure from previous transfer strategies. The Times reports that Liverpool would accept £35 million for Jones this summer, a figure described by some observers as low relative to his performance. This contrasts sharply with Nottingham Forest’s £115 million asking price for Elliot Anderson, as reported by The Telegraph.

Jones’ potential departure follows a pattern of selling homegrown talents for relatively modest fees. In 2025, Liverpool sold Caoimhin Kelleher, Jarell Quansah, and Tyler Morton for small sums, only for all three players to see their market values rise significantly in the subsequent year. The club is now preparing to repeat this model with Jones, prioritising immediate returns over retaining a player who has consistently delivered at the top level.

This transfer activity occurs against a backdrop of broader squad overhaul at Anfield. Legends Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson played their final games for the club on Sunday, marking the end of an era. Additionally, senior players Alisson Becker, Ibrahima Konate, and Joe Gomez are heavily linked with exits, with Konate’s departure viewed as near-certain due to his expiring contract.
