Liverpool secure pre-season victory over Como ahead of Premier League opener

Liverpool concluded their pre-season preparations with a 2-0 victory over Como at Anfield on Sunday evening. The result follows an earlier 0-0 behind-closed-doors encounter between the two sides earlier in the day, marking the second meeting between the clubs within a 24-hour period.
The decisive goals arrived in the first half. Liverpool took the lead in the 24th minute when Cody Gakpo struck into the bottom corner following a diagonal pass from Frimpong. The visitors grew into the game before the break, with both Douvikas and Jesus Rodriguez creating chances, but Liverpool restored their two-goal cushion in the 44th minute. New signing Jacquet tapped in from close range after a low cross from Gakpo, capitalising on a corner taken by Virgil van Dijk.
Liverpool dominated the second half, maintaining control of the tempo. The match saw late drama in the final minutes, with Como’s Diao missing a wide opportunity after a counter-attack involving new signing Cuoto. Liverpool nearly extended their lead in the 84th minute when Ryan Gravenberch’s placed finish struck the crossbar.
Como manager Francesco Fabregas expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance despite the defeat. He noted that the side looked competitive and highlighted the importance of the fixture in preparing for upcoming international commitments and their Champions League campaign next season.
Both clubs now shift their focus to their respective league campaigns. Como begin their Serie A season on Saturday, 22 August, with a match against Udinese. Liverpool’s Premier League campaign commences on Sunday, 23 August, with a high-profile clash against Newcastle United.
