Premier League clubs target West Ham’s top scorer amid survival battle

Liverpool are reportedly competing with Chelsea and Manchester United for the services of West Ham United captain Jarrod Bowen, with the 29-year-old’s availability for a summer transfer contingent on the club’s Premier League survival. According to The Guardian, the three clubs are lining up to target the winger should West Ham fail to avoid relegation, a scenario that would likely force a fire-sale of valued assets to raise funds.

West Ham currently sit in the relegation zone and face a critical final-day scenario. To avoid dropping to the Championship, the club must defeat Leeds United and hope that Tottenham Hotspur lose to Everton. If they are unable to secure their top-flight status, the club is expected to need more than £100m in revenue, with Bowen, Mateus Fernandes, and Crysencio Summerville identified as lucrative options to balance the books.

Bowen has been a standout performer for West Ham this season, recording 10 goals and 11 assists despite the team’s struggles. His consistency is further evidenced by a return of 37 Premier League goals over the past three years. Former England international Michael Owen has described him as a ‘real top finisher’, while former goalkeeper Ben Foster has stated he would be a ‘perfect fit’ for Liverpool.

For Liverpool, the potential acquisition addresses a specific structural need within the squad. The club is seeking a right-sided winger to replace Mohamed Salah, who is departing the club. Bowen is viewed as a reliable top-flight operator who could provide immediate depth in the final third, although questions remain regarding whether the club’s ownership would be prepared to meet his current earnings of approximately £150,000 per week.

While Bowen has remained loyal to West Ham and is believed to be happy in London, a prospective relegation could prompt a reassessment of his priorities. Liverpool have been intermittently linked with the winger for some time, but the imminent danger of West Ham’s relegation has sharpened the interest from the Merseyside club and their Premier League rivals.
