Liverpool captain dismisses Alisson Becker exit speculation amid squad transition

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has publicly dismissed concerns regarding goalkeeper Alisson Becker's potential departure, stating he is never worried despite persistent transfer rumours linking the 33-year-old to Juventus. While acknowledging the uncertainty surrounding Becker's future, the Dutch defender emphasised his importance to the team and insisted that the immediate focus remains on the final four games of the season.
Van Dijk revealed that neither he nor Alisson currently has a concrete idea of what comes next for the goalkeeper, suggesting the situation remains in flux. The captain described Becker as one of the best, if not the best, goalkeeper in the world and confirmed that while he would love for the Brazilian to stay, he refuses to speculate on future scenarios beyond the current campaign.
The comments come as transfer speculation has intensified following reports from Fabrizio Romano claiming Juventus have made a serious approach for Alisson. Meanwhile, BBC reporter Aadam Patel noted that manager Arne Slot has not definitively ruled out Alisson's departure when recently questioned, leaving the door open for a potential exit.
Van Dijk acknowledged the gradual erosion of the squad under the new management, noting that Mo Salah and Andy Robertson are also set to leave. He insisted that thinking ahead about potential exits is not a productive strategy, arguing that every footballer's career has an expiry date and players come and go as the years progress.
James Pearce, writing for The Athletic, recently argued that allowing Alisson to leave in the same summer as Salah and Robertson would be a mistake for the club. However, Van Dijk maintained that it is not his role to dictate future plans, stating that if a move occurs, the club will adapt to that reality.
The Liverpool captain reiterated that Becker is trying to be back as soon as possible to help the team for the last four games, which remains the main focus. Whatever happens after that period is not something Van Dijk believes should be asked about at this stage.
Letting go of key veterans is a reality of the game, but Van Dijk hopes Becker remains at Anfield for at least the 2026/27 campaign.
