Lions’ LaPorta Returns to Nashville for Sixth Annual Tight End University Summit
Sam LaPorta travels to Nashville for the sixth annual Tight End University event, following limited participation in recent team walkthroughs.
Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta has travelled to Nashville to attend the sixth annual Tight End University (TEU) summit. The event, founded in 2021 by George Kittle, Travis Kelce, and Greg Olsen, convenes current and retired elite tight ends for a three-day programme focused on film study, on-field drills, and mentorship.
LaPorta’s attendance follows a period where he was limited to walkthroughs during recent team activities, including OTAs and minicamp. He joins a roster of peers and legends for the immersive programme, which emphasises collaboration and skill development among the position group.
This marks LaPorta’s third consecutive attendance at the summit, having previously participated in 2023 and 2024. During his initial appearance in 2023, the Detroit Lions rookie engaged in specific training sessions, including a yards-after-catch discussion with Rob Gronkowski, a pass game breakdown with Kelce, and run blocking instruction from Kittle.
LaPorta has previously highlighted the value of the summit, noting the opportunity to operate around players he grew up watching, such as Greg Olsen. His performance during the 2024 event drew significant praise from Kelce, who described LaPorta as a "stud" and noted the collective strength of Iowa-born tight ends attending the gathering.
The summit also serves as a platform for recovery and rehabilitation activities. George Kittle, who is currently recovering from surgery, demonstrated limited mobility at the event six months post-operation. The San Francisco 49ers have expressed cautious optimism regarding his readiness for the upcoming season, though he remains restricted from full-contact drills.
Beyond the on-field activities, the TEU summit fosters community bonding among attendees. The event continues to draw high-profile figures from the NFL, reinforcing its status as a key gathering for tight ends seeking to refine their craft and share insights from veterans of the game.
