📅 Liga MX unveils the official schedule for Apertura 2026
Governance of the tournament calendar hinges on international fixture commitments

Liga MX has published the official schedule for the Apertura 2026 tournament, confirming that the 18 participating teams will compete for the national title under a calendar structure heavily influenced by international obligations. The governing body has established two distinct scenarios for the Grand Final, depending on the qualification status of Toluca for the FIFA Intercontinental Cup in Qatar.

The quarterfinals of the Final Phase are scheduled to proceed without interruption on November 25, 26, 28, and 29. These matches will determine the finalists ahead of the decisive two-legged series, the timing of which remains subject to Toluca’s participation in the global club competition.

The FIFA Intercontinental Cup is set to commence in Qatar on December 9. If Toluca fails to qualify for this tournament, the Liga MX Grand Final will follow the standard timeline, with matches scheduled for December 10 and 13. This scenario allows the domestic season to conclude in mid-December, aligning with traditional calendar expectations.

However, should Toluca qualify for the Intercontinental Cup, the domestic final will be postponed to accommodate the international fixture. In this exceptional scenario, the Grand Final is set for December 24 and 27. The governing body has noted that this late-December conclusion would create a unique scheduling dynamic for the tournament.

The release of the schedule highlights the complex intersection of domestic league governance and international football commitments. Liga MX has finalised the dates to ensure clarity for all 18 clubs, though the final outcome remains dependent on Toluca’s performance in the qualification process for the Qatar-based competition.
