Leeds rue missed chances as Brighton fight back for 1-1 draw
Jayden Bogle ended Leeds’ long wait for a goal at Brighton, but Luka Vuskovic’s header secured a share of the points.
Leeds United were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton and Hove Albion after failing to convert a series of opportunities in the Premier League.
Jayden Bogle gave Leeds the lead from close range after Bart Verbruggen saved Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s header and Ao Tanaka kept the ball alive.
Leeds continued to threaten, with Calvert-Lewin having another effort cleared off the line by Lewis Dunk and Tanaka striking the bar. Anton Stach also saw a close-range effort saved, while Tanaka later had a goal ruled out for offside.
Sky Sports reported that Calvert-Lewin’s early one-on-one was flagged offside, although replays appeared to suggest the decision may have been incorrect. The outlet also reported Leeds’ expected-goals total at 2.66.
Brighton grew into the match and Luka Vuskovic headed in an equaliser from a corner. The hosts had late chances to take all three points, but Promise David headed over and Pascal Gross scooped an effort over from close range.
Sky Sports reported that Leeds had not won at Brighton since 2009 and had gone eight matches without scoring there since 2012. Bogle’s goal ended that scoring run, but Leeds left with only a point.
