DraftKings Sportsbook odds indicate that LeBron James is favoured to average between 18 and 19 points per game in the upcoming NBA season. If the projection holds, it would mark the first time in his 24-year career that the star forward has fallen below the 20-point threshold.
As of 20 August, the sportsbook lists James at -160 to average 18 or more points per game, while odds of +180 suggest a lower probability of him reaching 20 points. This statistical shift comes as James prepares to enter his 24th season with the Philadelphia 76ers.
The anticipated change in scoring output is linked to James’ expected role within the Sixers’ roster. Although his specific duties have not been officially detailed, reports suggest he will adopt a more facilitative position alongside Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, and Joel Embiid.
This potential transition to a playmaking role has historical precedent. During the 2019-20 season, James served as a dedicated point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, leading the NBA in assists with 10.2 per game. He has averaged over seven assists in 15 of his career seasons, demonstrating a consistent capacity for distribution.
