Lane Johnson’s retirement closes a 14-season Eagles career
The Philadelphia right tackle says changed family priorities and a need to focus on his mental health led him to leave football.

Lane Johnson has announced his retirement from the NFL, ending a 14-season career spent entirely with the Philadelphia Eagles. In a letter cited by Fox Sports, he said his family priorities had changed and that focusing on his mental health was critical.
The announcement came two days after Johnson was inactive for Philadelphia’s game against the Los Angeles Rams for personal reasons. He had started the Eagles’ first three games of the season and said in August that 2026 would likely be his final season.
Johnson was selected fourth overall in the 2013 NFL Draft. He helped Philadelphia win two Super Bowls and earned six Pro Bowl selections.
His departure ends a long tenure with the Eagles as the club faces the task of replacing its right tackle. The team was 2–2 at the time of Fox Sports’ report.
