Knixs set NBA playoff record with 47-point halftime lead over Hawks

The New York Knicks have established a new benchmark in NBA playoff history by securing a 47-point halftime lead over the Atlanta Hawks during Game 6 of their first-round series. In a display of overwhelming dominance, the Knicks scored 83 points in the first half, shooting over 60 per cent from the field and 44 per cent from three-point range. This offensive efficiency was complemented by a stifling defence that forced the Hawks into 14 turnovers, resulting in a 47-point deficit that has never been seen in the league's modern era.

The margin of victory was built rapidly after the Hawks held a slender 11–9 advantage in the opening minutes. New York responded with a devastating run, outscoring Atlanta by 53 points over the subsequent 18 minutes. At the 7:12 mark of the second quarter, the Knicks took a 41-point lead, marking the fastest any team has achieved a 40-point lead in the play-by-play era. They subsequently stretched this advantage to 50 points at the 4:39 mark, a feat not witnessed since tracking began in 1998.

Forward OG Anunoby was the primary architect of the first-half scoring surge, finishing with 26 points. His individual output was so significant that at one stage, he had outscored the entire Hawks team. Mikal Bridges also contributed to the offensive explosion, adding 16 points to surpass his previous series high of 11 from Game 1. These performances allowed the Knicks to hold the Hawks to just 36 points in the first half.

The previous record for a halftime lead in the NBA playoffs stood at 41 points, a mark jointly held by the 2025 Indiana Pacers and the 2017 Cleveland Cavaliers. By surpassing this threshold, the Knicks have set a new standard for first-half dominance in the postseason. The performance highlights a stark contrast in team efficiency, as the Knicks' ability to control the pace and capitalise on opponent errors proved decisive in establishing this unprecedented lead.
