Stanley Cup Final Game 3

The Vegas Golden Knights have taken a 2-1 series lead in the Stanley Cup Final following a dramatic 5-4 double overtime victory over the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 3. The win, secured at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night, marks a significant shift in the championship series after the Knights erased a four-goal deficit to defeat their opponents.

The decisive moment arrived at the 5:38 mark of the second overtime period. Shea Theodore was credited with the winning goal after Carolina forward Jordan Martinook flipped the puck off goaltender Brandon Bussi’s skate. The puck bounded into the net behind Bussi, ending a prolonged contest and providing a decisive result for the home side.

Vegas had established a commanding 4-0 lead during the second period, driven largely by Mitch Marner’s hat trick. Marner recorded three goals in six minutes and 10 seconds, setting a new benchmark for the fastest hat trick in Stanley Cup Final history. Tomas Hertl also contributed to the surge with a goal in the same period, solidifying the Knights’ early advantage.

Carolina’s response began in the third period when starting goaltender Frederik Andersen was replaced by Brandon Bussi. The Hurricanes mounted a comeback with goals from Jordan Martinook, Taylor Hall, Jordan Staal, and Andrei Svechnikov, forcing the game into overtime. This marked the first time Carolina had lost in overtime during the postseason, having previously gone 5-0 after regulation.

Bussi made 18 saves during the extra periods before allowing Theodore’s game-winning goal. The victory concludes a long night in Nevada for the Hurricanes, who will now face elimination in Game 4. The Associated AP contributed to this report.
