Kentucky overcame a 17-point deficit to defeat South Carolina in overtime, converting a two-point play after the Gamecocks scored first in the extra period.

The Wildcats entered the game ranked 24th in the AP poll and left with a 4-1 record, including a 2-1 mark in SEC play. South Carolina was unranked.

The win came after Kentucky trailed 17-0 and the teams were tied at 27 at the end of regulation. Kenny Minchey connected with Willie Rodriguez for the decisive conversion.

Yahoo Sports reported that Kentucky was 27th in the Coaches Poll and 36th in ESPN’s Football Power Index before the game. Updated AP rankings were expected later on 4 October.

ON3’s Thomas Goldkamp predicted Kentucky would slip from 24th to 25th in the next AP poll. That forecast was not a confirmed ranking in the supplied report.
