Katie Taylor retires after winning WBC title at Croke Park
The Irish fighter defeated previously unbeaten Flora Pili by unanimous decision in her final bout, finishing with a reported 26 wins and one defeat.
Katie Taylor has ended her professional boxing career with a unanimous-decision victory over Flora Pili at Dublin’s Croke Park, claiming the vacant WBC light-welterweight title.
The judges scored the bout 110-90, 110-90 and 98-91 in Taylor’s favour. BBC Sport reported that more than 80,000 fans attended the fight, which Taylor had identified as the final contest of her career.
Taylor, an Olympic champion and two-weight world champion, retires as a reported three-time undisputed world champion. Her professional record stands at a reported 26 wins and one defeat.
Pili entered the bout unbeaten in 12 contests and had previously held the European title. Taylor’s sole professional loss came against Chantelle Cameron in 2023, before Taylor avenged it six months later.
After the final bell, Taylor completed a lap of the ring before ceremonially placing her gloves and belts on the canvas. Her career also included a trilogy of victories over Amanda Serrano and a role in advancing women’s boxing in Ireland, including its inclusion in the Olympics.
