JSerra Catholic Lions advance to CIF-SS softball final after shutting out Norco
A solo home run and dominant pitching performance secured a 2-0 win for JSerra Catholic on Saturday, setting up a championship clash against the winner of the La Habra-La Mirada matchup.
JSerra Catholic has secured its place in the California CIF Southern Section softball championship game following a decisive 2-0 victory over Norco in the semifinal round on Saturday, 23 May. The Lions, representing the Trinity League, utilised a combination of early offensive production and stifling pitching to neutralise a highly ranked opponent.
The contest began with a tense defensive battle, as neither team managed to register a run through the first two innings. JSerra Catholic broke the deadlock in the bottom of the third inning when a solo home run provided a 1-0 lead. The Lions extended their advantage to 2-0 before the top of the fourth inning, establishing a margin that Norco was unable to breach for the remainder of the game.
Norco entered the fixture ranked No. 8 in the MaxPreps national rankings, presenting a significant offensive threat. However, the Cougars struggled to generate sustained pressure against the JSerra Catholic pitching staff. Through the bottom of the sixth inning, Norco failed to solve the Lions’ pitching, leaving the score unchanged at 2-0.
The victory marks a successful culmination of the postseason campaign for JSerra Catholic. The team will now await the outcome of the opposing semifinal bracket to determine their opponent in the final. The Lions are set to face either the La Habra Highlanders or the La Mirada Matadores, depending on which side prevails in their respective semifinal match.
The semifinal contest was broadcast live on the NFHS Network, allowing for real-time tracking of the game’s progression. With the final out secured, JSerra Catholic advances as the clear favourite to represent the Trinity League in the CIF-SS title game.
