Jamie Vardy returns to English football with Burnley deal
The 39-year-old striker has joined Burnley until the end of the current campaign after leaving Italian club Cremonese.
Burnley have signed veteran striker Jamie Vardy until the end of the current campaign, bringing the former Leicester City and England forward back to English football.
Yahoo Sports reported that Vardy had been without a club since the end of last season, following a spell with Italian club Cremonese. The source said he scored seven goals in 29 appearances for the club.
Vardy said he was pleased to join Burnley and pointed to the club’s history and supporters. He said he wanted to help the team “move in the right direction”.
The signing comes as Burnley seek to address a difficult start to their Championship campaign. The source described the club as bottom of the division after five matches, following a home defeat by Bristol City.
Vardy’s agreement runs until the end of the season, according to Burnley’s announcement.
