Jackson Jr. challenges Donald to return to Rams after Garrett trade
O’Shea Jackson Jr. has publicly urged Aaron Donald to reconsider his retirement, arguing that the Los Angeles Rams’ acquisition of Myles Garrett satisfies the conditions the defensive tackle previously set for a return to the NFL.

O’Shea Jackson Jr., the son of Ice Cube and a prominent Los Angeles Rams supporter, has issued a public appeal to retired NFL defensive tackle Aaron Donald, urging him to end his retirement and rejoin the team. The message was released following the Rams’ completion of a trade for defensive end Myles Garrett, a move that has intensified speculation regarding Donald’s potential return to professional football.
Jackson Jr. referenced a previous statement by Donald, who indicated he would consider coming out of retirement if the Rams acquired another elite pass rusher. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Jackson Jr. recalled Donald’s earlier hypothetical scenario involving Micah Parsons, noting that the acquisition of Garrett represents a significant escalation of those conditions. “Anyway, now we got Myles Garrett. So I think we should be a hair above ‘consider’ no?” Jackson Jr. wrote.
The appeal frames the addition of Garrett as a decisive factor in Donald’s decision-making process. Donald retired as a Super Bowl champion and is widely regarded as a future Hall of Famer. The Rams’ general manager, Les Snead, has previously hinted at the possibility of Donald’s return and expressed interest in maintaining communication with the player, suggesting the organisation is actively monitoring the situation.
Donald has reportedly been flirting with the idea of a comeback since the announcement of the Garrett trade. The prospect of pairing two of the most disruptive front-seven players of the era in Los Angeles has shifted the conversation from fantasy to a tangible roster possibility. However, it remains unconfirmed whether Donald is actively considering a return or if he has responded to Jackson Jr.’s message.
The Rams are attempting to maximise a championship window with this defensive overhaul. While the excitement among fans is palpable, the feasibility of Donald returning to the physical demands of the NFL after retirement remains unknown. Any decision to return would require Donald to weigh the opportunity for another title push against the rigours of a full season.
