Iowa State women's wrestling earns commitment from Makennah Craft
Women’s wrestling program adds NAIA medalist to early roster

Iowa State University’s women’s wrestling program has secured its third recruitment commitment, marking a continued expansion of the squad as it approaches its inaugural official season. Campbellsville University transfer Makennah Craft announced her decision to join the Cyclones on 21 May via Instagram, following a busy recruitment period for the university.

Craft arrives at Iowa State with experience from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), where she competed during her freshman season. She placed third at the NAIA Championships in the 103-pound weight class, providing immediate competitive history for the developing program.

Prior to her collegiate career, Craft established herself as a prominent high school recruit. Her accolades include four undefeated titles as an Ohio State champion, an Ironman championship, and a runner-up finish at the prestigious Fargo Championships. These results underscore her background in amateur wrestling before transitioning to the university level.

The recruitment process involved consideration of other institutions, with Craft also evaluating Kent State University. Kent State is another Division I program in women’s wrestling that is similarly nearing its first official season, positioning both schools as emerging entities in the sport.

The addition of Craft represents a strategic move for Iowa State as it builds its roster. By securing a transfer with proven tournament success, the program aims to establish a competitive foundation ahead of its formal debut. The Cyclones continue to navigate the early stages of program development with targeted recruitment efforts.
