One of Intel’s fastest desktop CPUs is $50 off
Processor drops to $279.99 as Intel pushes latest desktop platform

Intel has slashed the price of its Core Ultra 7 270K Plus desktop processor to an all-time low of $279.99 at Amazon, marking a discount of approximately $45 off the standard retail rate. The move positions the chip, which Intel marketed in late March as one of its fastest gaming desktop processors ever, at a more accessible entry point for consumers looking to upgrade or build new systems.

Independent testing from Gamers Nexus suggests the 270K Plus delivers performance that competes closely with AMD’s Ryzen 9000-series X3D CPUs, which typically carry a higher price tag. Furthermore, the processor outperforms the Intel Core i9-14900K in various tasks, challenging the long-standing reputation of the i9-14900K as a preferred choice for gamers. This performance profile, combined with the price reduction, aims to strengthen Intel’s position in the high-end desktop market.

The Core Ultra 7 270K Plus utilises the new LGA 1851 socket, requiring compatible motherboards for installation. These boards support DDR5 RAM, M.2 SSDs, and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity. While the CPU price has dropped significantly, builders should note that RAM costs remain elevated compared to historical averages, potentially offsetting some of the savings on the processor itself.

To incentivise purchases, Intel is offering a complimentary digital download of the game Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. Customers must register their purchase with Intel by 31 July to claim the title. This promotion adds value to the hardware acquisition, though the primary financial benefit remains the reduced cost of the processor itself.

For those constructing full systems, the high cost of memory remains a constraint. Micro Center is currently offering component bundles that include discounted RAM, providing an alternative path for builders seeking to manage overall build costs. The $279.99 price point at Amazon is subject to change and may not be available beyond the current promotion window.
