Instagram widens profile grid reorganisation feature to all users
The update, available on Android and iPhone, allows users to manually arrange content while keeping pinned items fixed at the top.

Instagram has begun a wide rollout of a new feature enabling users to manually rearrange the order of photos and videos on their profile pages. The update, which went live on 8 June 2026, is now available across both Android and iPhone mobile applications.
Prior to this release, content on user profiles was locked into a strict chronological sequence. The only previous method for altering the visual layout involved pinning up to three specific posts to the top of the grid. The new functionality removes this constraint, allowing users to long-press and drag posts to customise their profile layout regardless of the content's age.
Despite the new flexibility, pinned posts will remain fixed at the top of the profile grid and will not be affected by the reorganisation process. This ensures that featured content or announcements remain visible above the customisable feed.
The feature was initially announced by Instagram head Adam Mosseri in January 2025. At that time, Mosseri also apologised to users whose profile aesthetics were disrupted when the app transitioned from square thumbnails to taller, vertically oriented formats. The wide launch follows a testing period of nearly a year during which the tool was available to select groups.
Mosseri’s recent announcement post simply stated “Finally,” acknowledging the anticipation surrounding the release. While the update addresses long-standing requests for profile customisation, user comments indicate ongoing demand for other features, including a native iPad user interface, the timeline for which remains unspecified.
