Instagram enables global grid reordering feature
Users can now manually organise content on their profiles, overriding chronological order, following a year-long development period.

Instagram has globally rolled out a feature allowing users to manually rearrange posts on their profile grids. The update, available to users worldwide, enables individuals to drag and drop content into a preferred order, disregarding the original chronological posting date.
The functionality was announced by Instagram head Adam Mosseri approximately one year prior to this release. Meta stated that the delay between the announcement and the current rollout was intentional, aimed at ensuring the feature was implemented correctly.
"We know this is long overdue, but we wanted to take the time to get it right," Meta told USA Today regarding the launch. The ability to rearrange the grid has been one of the most requested features on the platform, with Meta planning its introduction well before Mosseri’s public announcement.
Users can access the function by long-pressing a post on their profile and selecting "Reorder grid." This action opens a window where content can be dragged and dropped to suit the user’s aesthetic preferences. Pinned posts remain fixed at the top of the profile and are blacked out within the reordering interface to prevent accidental movement.
The feature’s existence was previously identified in the app’s code by researcher Alessandro Paluzzi in 2022. Paluzzi, known for reverse-engineering applications, discovered an "edit grid" option in the Instagram app code at that time, hinting at the tool’s development long before its official availability.
