Insta360 enters gimbal market with $770 Luna Ultra, challenging DJI dominance
The Chinese manufacturer’s first stabilised camera launches globally on June 10, priced above the base DJI Osmo Pocket 4 but offering expanded feature set for content creators.

Insta360 has officially launched the Luna Ultra, marking the company’s entry into the global handheld stabiliser market with its first gimbal camera. Priced at $770, the device is positioned as a direct competitor to DJI’s established Osmo Pocket series, targeting the vlogging and travel documentation sectors. The camera is available from June 10 via the Insta360 website, Amazon, and Best Buy, with options for Cosmic Black and Stellar White finishes.
Developed in collaboration with Leica, the Luna Ultra is equipped with a one-inch 8K sensor paired with a Leica Summicron lens. This primary imaging system supports video recording at 8K resolution and 30 frames per second, with Dolby Vision support. For still photography, the device captures 37-megapixel images and 200-megapixel panoramas. A secondary telephoto lens system, featuring a 1/1.3-inch sensor and F2 aperture, enables up to 12x zoom and bokeh effects.
The hardware includes a detachable two-inch OLED touchscreen that allows users to control the camera from up to 66 feet away. Insta360 has integrated AI subject tracking to maintain focus on moving subjects, working in tandem with the internal gimbal stabilisation system. Internal storage provides 47GB of space, with expansion support for microSD cards up to 1TB. The device is powered by a 1,550mAh battery, rated for up to four hours of operation.
Audio recording is supported by built-in wind guards, though a dedicated microphone must be purchased separately. The camera also features built-in timecode, enabling seamless integration with professional editing software such as Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro. Max Richter, marketing vice-president and co-founder of Insta360, stated that the launch marks the company’s arrival in the gimbal camera space, backed by the firm’s imaging expertise.
The base DJI Osmo Pocket 4 is priced lower than the Luna Ultra but is not officially available in the United States. Insta360 previously debuted the Luna Ultra at NAB 2026 before an initial release in the Chinese market. The global launch on June 10 represents the first time the device is offered to international consumers through major retail channels.
