India’s women decline Asia Cup trophy from ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi

India’s women’s cricket team declined to receive the Women’s Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council chairman Mohsin Naqvi after defeating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final in Dubai.
BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla said the decision had been discussed and taken collectively by the Board. He said Naqvi did not raise any objection.
Shukla said the trophy was presented elsewhere before Naqvi left. The source account does not specify who ultimately received or held the trophy.
The decision reportedly marked the second consecutive year in which an Indian team did not accept the Asia Cup trophy from Naqvi. The men’s team took the same position during the 2025 Asia Cup following the Pahalgam terror attack, according to the report.
Shukla also described BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia’s interaction with Naqvi during the final as professional. Saikia has previously said India would continue playing Pakistan in multinational tournaments under government policy, while not necessarily accepting all related conditions.
