Indiana lands 5-star football recruit: Monshun Sales -- nation's No. 1 WR -- commits to Curt Cignetti
Program breaks record for highest-rated player as Hoosiers capitalise on national championship momentum

Indiana University has secured the commitment of Monshun Sales, a five-star wide receiver from Indianapolis’ Lawrence North High School, marking the highest-rated recruit in the institution’s history. Ranked as the nation’s number one prospect at his position and thirteenth overall in the 2027 class by 247Sports, Sales selected Indiana over finalists including Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, and Texas.

The announcement follows Indiana’s recent College Football Playoff National Championship victory under head coach Curt Cignetti, a result that has significantly elevated the program’s standing in national recruiting circles. Sales, a 6-foot-5, 195-pound athlete, visited the Indiana campus in late April before touring other finalist universities in June. He confirmed his decision on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Friday afternoon.

Sales’ recruitment highlights a strategic shift in the program’s talent acquisition, moving beyond the previous benchmark set by Dasan McCullough, who was ranked 43rd in the 2022 class. Sales is also the highest-ranked player from the state of Indiana since Jaylon Smith signed with Notre Dame as the seventh overall prospect in 2013. His commitment signals a sustained period of institutional success under Cignetti, who has reportedly delivered on his promises to attract elite talent to Bloomington.

During his junior year, Sales recorded 37 catches for 794 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging more than 21 yards per reception. He also contributed on defence as a safety, tallying 56 tackles. Andrew Ivins, 247Sports director of scouting, described Sales as possessing a rare combination of size and speed, noting his "hulking frame and elite athletic markers" align with the profile of successful Indiana wide receivers such as Elijah Sarratt and Charlie Becker.

Indiana’s 2027 recruiting class now stands at 17 commitments, including fellow top prospect Branden Sharpe. The class ranks 30th nationally and 11th in the Big Ten. Sales’ decision underscores the competitive viability of the Indiana programme, which has transformed from a regional contender into a destination for top-tier national talent within a short timeframe.
