Ikea and Microsoft unveil Yxstaby collection for Xbox’s 25th anniversary
The nine-piece furniture range blends Scandinavian design with gaming motifs, including a tilting thumbstick stool and controller-themed accessories.
Ikea has partnered with Microsoft to launch the Yxstaby collection, a nine-piece range of gaming-inspired furniture and home accessories. The release marks the 25th anniversary of the first Xbox console, which entered the market in 2001. The collection is designed to integrate seamlessly into standard home environments, utilising neutral Scandinavian colours and shapes punctuated by Xbox’s iconic green accents.
The range includes practical items such as a TV stand, laptop stand, side table, lounge chair, and a multi-functional toolbox. Standout pieces are specifically designed around recognizable Xbox controller motifs, including a green X-shaped cushion, a decorative platter, and a mirrored display box. The design philosophy aims to make gaming furniture that people want in their homes, rather than items they merely accept as necessary for playing.
A key feature of the collection is the thumbstick-inspired stool, which was developed using original 3D design files for the Xbox controller. The stool features a grippy textured surface and a tilting mechanism that moves with the user. Ikea designer David Wahl noted that the challenge was ensuring the piece had the right seating curve and stability while retaining the aesthetic of a thumbstick.
The lounge chair includes a mesh pocket on the underside for storing game controllers, though it is also spacious enough for magazines and large books. The easel-style TV stand is available in white or black and features shelves, hooks, and castors for mobility. A mirrored display box, also available in black or white, is intended for showcasing Xbox controllers as wall decor.
Philip Dilé, an Ikea product design developer, stated that the shift in how people play at home has changed the requirements for the space. He explained that the goal was to create furniture that allows users to bring play into a room and tuck everything away afterwards. The collection reflects a move towards relaxation and connection, rather than just performance.
The Yxstaby collection will be available online and in Ikea stores from 1 October 2026. Specific prices and launch dates may vary by market. The range represents a collaboration between Xbox and Ikea designers, aiming to co-exist naturally with existing furniture.
