Ibragimov marks Russia debut after injury layoff
The 18-year-old midfielder made his senior international appearance during a 3-0 victory over Burkina Faso, completing 96 per cent of his passes in a brief substitute stint.

Amir Ibragimov has made his senior international debut for the Russia national team, stepping onto the pitch during a 3-0 victory over Burkina Faso on Friday. The 18-year-old Manchester United youth player was substituted on in the 60th minute, replacing Aleksey Miranchuk.
The call-up arrives shortly after Ibragimov returned to fitness following a five-month absence due to a broken foot. Despite being eligible to represent England, the teenager has opted to commit his international future to Russia, accepting the invitation from manager Valeriy Karpin.
During his brief appearance on the right side of the attack, Ibragimov demonstrated high technical efficiency. He completed 25 of 26 passes, achieving a 96 per cent accuracy rate, and touched the ball 28 times. His defensive contribution included one tackle and one recovery, alongside a single attempted dribble.
Ibragimov is widely regarded as one of the most promising talents emerging from Manchester United’s Carrington training complex. While his development has previously been interrupted by injuries, his potential remains a subject of significant interest within the club’s youth setup.
Russia’s post-season international schedule includes fixtures against Egypt, Burkina Faso, and Trinidad and Tobago. Ibragimov will look to build on this debut when the national team faces Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday, before he returns to focus on pre-season preparations with Manchester United.
