Andersen's shutout puts Canes 1 win from Final
Carolina moves to the brink of the Stanley Cup Final after defeating Montreal 4-0 in Game 4

The Carolina Hurricanes have advanced to within one victory of the Stanley Cup Final, securing a 3-1 series lead in the Eastern Conference finals with a 4-0 shutout victory over the Montreal Canadiens. The win, achieved in Game 4 on Wednesday night, caps a dominant performance that saw Carolina overcome previous overtime struggles to close out the series in regulation.

Goaltender Frederik Andersen was instrumental in the victory, making 18 saves for his third shutout of the 12-game postseason run. His performance stabilised a defence that had relied on high-scoring overtime wins in the previous two games, allowing the Hurricanes to put the contest away early. Andersen and the Hurricanes now hold an 11-1 record across the first three rounds of the playoffs.

The offensive surge began late in the first period, with Sebastian Aho, Jordan Staal, and Logan Stankoven scoring within a 2:47 span. Aho opened the scoring with a one-timer on the power play with 5:02 remaining in the period. Staal followed shortly after by tipping in a pass from K'Andre Miller, and Stankoven completed the sequence by finishing a two-on-one rush with Jackson Blake.

Andrei Svechnikov added an empty-net goal in the third period to solidify the margin. The Hurricanes controlled the pace throughout, finishing with a 43-18 shots-on-goal advantage, including a decisive 19-3 edge in the final period. Nikolaj Ehlers and Shayne Gostisbehere each contributed two assists to the offensive output.

Carolina’s road performance has been a defining feature of their playoff campaign, making them the seventh NHL team to win six or more road games to start a postseason. Jakub Dobes, the Canadiens’ goaltender, conceded all four goals in the defeat. The Hurricanes will host Game 5 in North Carolina on Friday night, with the series winner set to face the Vegas Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup Final.
