Hellas Verona Mathematically Relegated to Serie B Following Lecce Victory
A 2-1 defeat for Pisa by US Lecce on Friday sealed Verona's fate, leaving them 13 points adrift with four matches remaining in the 2025-26 campaign.
Hellas Verona has been mathematically confirmed for relegation from Serie A to Serie B for the 2026-27 season. The decision follows the 2-1 victory of US Lecce over Pisa on Friday, 1 May 2026, which left Verona thirteen points behind the safety zone with four matches remaining in the current campaign.
Although the club is not scheduled to play until Sunday evening, the points deficit now ensures they will finish in the bottom three of the table. They currently sit on 19 points from 34 matches, placing them one point ahead of 20th-placed Pisa, who have also been relegated after their home defeat to Lecce.
The season has been marked by a struggle for consistency, with Verona recording only three league wins all season. Their first victory of the campaign occurred at home against Atalanta on 6 December 2025, a result that failed to prevent a prolonged period of poor form.
Management changes occurred earlier in the year, with head coach Paolo Zanetti dismissed on 2 February 2026. He was replaced by interim manager Paolo Sammarco, who took charge as the team's performance continued to decline throughout the latter half of the season.
This relegation marks the club's return to the second tier of Italian football for the first time since the 2018-19 season. During that previous campaign, Verona finished fifth in Serie B and gained promotion to the top flight via the play-offs.
The club will now look ahead to their next fixture against Juventus on Sunday evening, though their status in the top division has been officially resolved by the league structure.
