Hamilton calls for Ferrari rules after Leclerc clash at Monza

Lewis Hamilton has called for clearer rules at Ferrari after making contact with team-mate Charles Leclerc on the opening lap of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

Hamilton, who joined Ferrari from Mercedes in 2025, said the team had no written “rules of engagement” governing racing between its drivers. He dropped from fourth to 10th after running onto the gravel and recovered to finish sixth.

Leclerc held third after the incident but crashed out on the following lap, leaving Ferrari without a representative in contention at its home race. Leclerc said the drivers had gone “too far” in their early battle.

Hamilton also questioned Ferrari’s tyre choice and its decision not to pit him during a virtual safety car period. He said the team lacked the straight-line speed needed to recover the time lost through an additional stop.

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur said it was too early to prioritise either driver, although he indicated the question of team orders could be discussed later. Kimi Antonelli won from 19th on the grid and extended his championship lead over Hamilton to 76 points.

Ferrari’s next race is the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid.
