Halo: Campaign Evolved hits PS5, Xbox and PC on July 28
4K update integrates mechanics from later franchise entries and adds prequel missions

Halo Studios has confirmed that Halo: Campaign Evolved will release on July 28 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The announcement was made during the Xbox Summer Game Fest showcase, which also revealed details regarding the new content included in the remake. The title serves as a 4K remaster of the original Halo: Combat Evolved narrative, which debuted in 2001 and established the tone for Xbox’s first-person shooter ambitions.

The release will include three new bonus missions titled Operation: METEORITE. This three-mission narrative arc is set one year prior to the events of the original game and features Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson on a Covenant research vessel. According to the source material, the mission involves an attempt to retrieve an unspecified item, though the plan reportedly encounters complications. The update also introduces new locations and enemy variants alongside classic weapons from the series.

Technical upgrades are built on Unreal Engine 5, featuring 4K visuals, updated animations, remastered music, and re-recorded voice lines. The remake integrates weapons and mechanics from subsequent Halo games, including the energy sword and battle rifle. Cooperative play options have been expanded to support two-player local split-screen co-op and up to four-player online co-op.

Pricing and access details were outlined following the showcase. A Premium Edition is priced at $69.99, while a Collector's Edition is also available. Purchasers of either premium tier receive five days of early access starting on July 23. The standard release date for all other players is July 28.

The title will be available via Xbox Game Pass and cloud play at launch. Preorders opened immediately following the Xbox Games Showcase announcement last Sunday. The project was initially announced last year as a modern evolution of the foundational franchise entry, aiming to retain the distinctive identity of the Halo series while offering significant depth through its updates.
