Guernsey retain Muratti Vase with historic victory on Jersey soil
Guernsey defeated Jersey 2-1 to retain the Muratti Vase, marking the first time the island has won the historic fixture on Jersey ground since 2014.

Guernsey have retained the Muratti Vase for the second successive year, defeating Jersey 2-1 in a decisive encounter that shifted the momentum of the historic rivalry. The victory marks a significant milestone for the Guernsey side, who secured their first win on Jersey soil since 2014, breaking a long-standing drought in the fixture.
Jersey began the match with early pressure, creating a host of first-half opportunities. Karl Hinds missed a penalty midway through the half, but the hosts eventually took the lead in the 34th minute. A cross from Brandon Wallace found Matt Loaring, who headed the ball into the net from six yards to give Jersey a 1-0 advantage.
Guernsey responded early in the second half to level the scores. Veteran forward Ross Allen capitalised on a well-worked move, converting a low cross from Will Fazakerley from close range to double Guernsey’s advantage. The goal shifted the tactical balance of the game, forcing Jersey to chase the match.
Despite the setback, Jersey pulled one goal back with 27 minutes remaining through a close-range effort by Toby Ritzema. However, the visitors held firm defensively, denying Jersey the equaliser they sought. Adam Trotter missed a clear chance to salvage a point, blazing an effort over the bar from six yards with 15 minutes left.
Guernsey goalkeeper Josh Addison was named Player of the Match for a commanding performance that included several key saves. Addison denied Ritzema early in the game, saved Hinds’ penalty, and thwarted follow-up efforts from Jonny Le Quesne. His efforts were instrumental in preserving the clean sheet after the initial goal.
The result brings Guernsey’s total wins in the historic fixture to 49, while Jersey’s tally stands at 59. Alderney has won the title once. The victory underscores Guernsey’s growing consistency in the annual contest, having now retained the title for two consecutive years.
