Guardiola to depart Manchester City at season’s end, ending decade-long tenure
The 55-year-old Spaniard leaves as the club’s most decorated manager, having secured 20 honours including a historic Champions League victory.

Pep Guardiola is set to leave Manchester City at the conclusion of the current Premier League season, bringing an end to his decade-long tenure at the club. The departure occurs one year prior to the expiry of his existing contract, which is scheduled to run until 2027. The announcement follows his recent leadership of the team to an FA Cup victory against Chelsea.
Guardiola, 55, becomes the most decorated manager in Manchester City’s history, having secured 20 honours since his arrival in 2016. His record includes six league titles, a domestic treble in the 2018/19 season, and the club’s first Champions League trophy in 2022/23. He also became the first manager in history to lead a club to four successive English top-flight titles between 2020 and 2024.
The Spaniard previously managed Barcelona and Bayern Munich before taking charge at the Etihad. His time at City was marked by significant domestic dominance, with the club taking six of the last eight available titles during his reign. The 2022/23 Champions League final, where Rodri scored the winning goal against Inter Milan, stands as a pivotal moment in the club’s continental history.
Guardiola recently guided City to an FA Cup win against managerless Chelsea, defeating them 1-0 at Wembley. Despite this success, he refused to comment on whether he would cut his time short at the club following the victory. The Premier League title race remains tight, with the outcome to be decided on the final day of the season.
The departure marks a significant shift for the club, which has been defined by Guardiola’s strategic oversight for ten years. As the title fight reaches its climax, the focus now turns to the conclusion of the season and the subsequent transition of leadership at one of English football’s most successful institutions.
