Fenerbahce has confirmed the signing of Mason Greenwood on a four-year contract, completing a transfer from Marseille for a fee of 39 million euros, approximately $44.5 million. The Istanbul-based club announced the deal late Tuesday, marking the third professional club the 24-year-old forward has joined in three years since his departure from Manchester United in 2022.

Greenwood stated in a video message posted by the club that joining Fenerbahce was a "no-brainer" and described the team as "the biggest in Turkey." The move follows interest from Atletico Madrid, but Greenwood has opted for the Turkish side, where he will aim to help the club challenge for domestic honours and compete in European competition.

The transfer includes significant financial implications for Greenwood’s former employer. Manchester United is set to receive 13 million euros from the transaction. Greenwood’s time at Old Trafford ended in 2022 when he was suspended following criminal charges, which were later dropped, but the club ruled out his return to the squad.

Prior to his stint at Marseille, Greenwood spent one season on loan at Spanish club Getafe. His two years in France have been statistically productive, with the forward scoring 21 league goals in the 2024-25 season. This tally made him joint top scorer in Ligue 1 alongside Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembélé.

Fenerbahce enters the new campaign as runners-up from the previous season and will begin their Champions League qualification in the second round against Gornik Zabrze. The club has not won the Turkish league since 2014, while rivals Galatasaray have dominated the period with seven titles, including the last four.

Internationally, Greenwood remains eligible for England, having earned one cap in 2020, though former coach Gareth Southgate and current manager Thomas Tuchel have indicated he is not in their selection thoughts. While he is eligible to play for Jamaica under FIFA rules, no request to change his international allegiance has been processed by the football body.
