Great Britain and Ireland have won the Walker Cup after recovering from a three-point deficit to defeat the USA 13½-12½ in a contest decided on the final hole.
The USA had swept all four morning foursomes, leaving Great Britain and Ireland facing defeat before the singles. The result turned after Great Britain and Ireland won eight of the 10 afternoon matches.
Josh Hill secured the decisive point by beating Tyler Watts by one hole, winning the 18th. The USA won two singles matches, while two others were halved.
Sky Sports reported that the result was Great Britain and Ireland’s tenth Walker Cup victory and their first since 2015. The competition is contested between Great Britain and Ireland and the USA.
The USA were also reported to have missed four putts that could have helped retain the trophy, adding to the late reversal after their dominant morning session.
