Google slashes AI Plus subscription price and doubles cloud storage
The tech giant’s move, announced by product lead Vikas Kansal, aims to broaden access to advanced Gemini models following the Google I/O 2026 conference.

Google has significantly revised the pricing structure for its AI Plus subscription, reducing the monthly cost from $7.99 to $4.99. Alongside the price reduction, the company has doubled the included cloud storage allowance from 200GB to 400GB. The announcement, made by Vikas Kansal, Google’s Product Lead for Gemini AI subscriptions, via X on June 8, 2026, signals a strategic effort to lower barriers to entry for its advanced artificial intelligence tools.
Originally launched in January 2026 as a more affordable alternative to the premium AI Pro plan, the AI Plus tier was designed to provide access to high-performance models including Gemini 3 Pro, Nano Banana Pro, and Deep Research. The initial offering came with stricter usage limits compared to the higher-priced Pro plan, but the updated terms now offer enhanced value for users seeking these capabilities at a lower cost point.
The revised subscription package now includes access to Gemini Omni, Google’s latest model for generating video from any input, a feature introduced in the wake of the Google I/O 2026 conference. Subscribers also gain access to AI-powered email tools and a new Daily Brief agent within the Gemini app, which summarises upcoming days to assist with productivity. These additions complement the existing suite of research and generation tools previously available in the tier.
Existing subscribers will begin to see the additional 200GB of cloud storage in the coming days, with the updated monthly price of $4.99 reflected on their next billing cycle. The company noted that while AI feature performance may vary, the structural changes to the plan are intended to provide a more compelling value proposition for both new and current users.
The adjustment positions the AI Plus plan as a central component of Google’s broader strategy to integrate artificial intelligence into everyday workflows. By combining reduced pricing with increased storage and access to the newest models, Google is attempting to capture a larger share of the consumer and prosumer market for AI-driven services.
